trusting the flow from within

Wednesdays, January 31, February 7, 14, 21, 28, 2024
9:30am - 11:00am, Central Time

Facilitated by Debbi Horton and Sandra Smith
Certified Enneagram Teachers

People leading with type Six are good problem solvers, loyal friends and dedicated workers. Their commitment and dedication allow them to faithfully be there for others. And, an over focus on dedication and loyalty can weigh them down and create anxiety for themselves and others. Focus on what might go wrong often blinds Sixes to what is going well.

This online type SIX group will explore some of the complexities of this ego structure such as the defense mechanism of “projection” as well as the holy virtue of Courage and all things in between. Additionally, we’ll explore ways to cultivate a strong relationship with your inner guidance and wisdom. Our work together will focus on deepening self-compassion and support the arising of the Enlightened Spiritual Perspective: Holy Faith.

These five sessions will include inquiry, breakouts, large group discussions and conversation partners to support the teachings as we create some distance between the type structure and our True Nature. This group is for those leading with type 6 and is not an introductory offering. All genders welcome.

Debbi Horton, MA, is a Certified Narrative Enneagram teacher and an IEA Accredited Professional. She is an active Guide with the Enneagram Prison Project. Along with Rev. Tyler Sit she developed and presents, “Moving the Race Conversation Forward with the Enneagram.” She offers spiritual direction focusing on the Enneagram and embodiment. Her TEPP (The Embodied Present Process) training with Philip Shepherd is foundational to her work.

Sandra Smith, MDiv, is a Certified Narrative Enneagram teacher and an IEA Accredited Professional. She serves as a mentor/supervisor for those seeking certification through the Narrative Enneagram as well as a mentor in the IEA Diversity Mentoring Program. Sandra offers public workshops, organizational trainings, and individual spiritual direction sessions using the Enneagram as guide. She co-hosts the podcast Heart of the Enneagram.

Honoring the Divine Spark Within Ourselves and Others - Online Retreat

Infinite Love, in an act of Love, creates us in the image and likeness of Love, for Love’s sake alone.

Moment by moment, the generosity of God is poured out into our life such that we are the generosity of God.

But we don’t see it. Why don’t we see it?

It’s not achieved by attaining anything, because nothing is missing… The task is to begin to understand what the hindrance is made of.

-James Finley

Online retreat sponsored by Countryside UCC church in Omaha, Nebraska.

Friday, January 19, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm Central Time
Saturday, January 20, 10 am - 3:00 pm Central Time

Using the Enneagram as a tool, we will explore 9 expressions of the the Divine Spark. We will also explore 9 ways that hinder us from experiencing our Divine Spark.

Honoring the Divine Spark Within Ourselves and Others

Through the combined expertise of our Presenter, Debbi Horton, and a few guests who are Guides with the Enneagram Prison Project, this gathering will focus on recognizing and honoring the divine essence within each of the nine enneagram types.

We invite those who are in ministry with others, including spiritual directors, pastors and lay leaders, who are curious about their own divine spark and how to recognize the divine essence in others whom they encounter in their lives and ministry.

Participants will be enriched through Debbi’s teaching, large and small group interaction, as well as through time for personal reflection. All will walk away with an awareness and appreciation of their unique essence as well as greater attunement to the divine essence in others.

Previous assessment of your own Enneagram type or exposure to Enneagram types in general will be helpful. This is not a ground-level, introductory Enneagram session and expands on basic Enneagram knowledge.

Blue Moon Type Four Group

8/30/23 first blue moon since 2020, next one is in 2026.
What better time to begin a type 4 group!

An auspicious beginning on our journey to fullness.

Wednesdays, August 30, September 6, 13, 20, 27, 2023
9:30am - 11:00am, Central Time

Facilitated by Sandra Smith and Debbi Horton
Certified Enneagram Teachers

People leading with Enneagram type Four are creative, innovative, and strategic. Their emotional attunement allows them to connect in meaningful ways that can bring ease to relationships. And, an over focus on emotional depth can serve to diminish relational depth! Seeking what is missing blinds Fours to what is here. Questions we will explore include: How does longing lead you to abandon yourself? How is your authenticity coming forward and what allows that to happen?

This online Type Four group will explore some of the complexities of this ego structure such as the defense mechanism of “introjection” as well as the holy virtue of Equanimity and all things in between. Additionally, we’ll explore ways to cultivate a steady stable sense of self that comes from the heart. Our work together will focus on deepening self-compassion and support the arising of the Enlightened Spiritual Perspective: Holy Source.

These five sessions will include inquiry, breakout group discussion, and self-reflection to support the teachings as we create some distance between the type structure and our True Nature. This group is limited to 16 people who are familiar with their type’s patterns. This is not an introductory offering.

The Enneagram - Exploring Practices that Awaken Us

Join Debbi Horton and Sandra Smith at Ring Lake Ranch in Wyoming!

Whether you are new to the Enneagram System or have been working with this map for years, this week will offer space, teaching and practices to grow ourselves toward our full dimensionality in order to be compassionate participants in the world. Both silence and the beautiful, spacious Wyoming wilderness will serve as teachers and partners in our exploration. Together we will learn new deepening and grounding practices, specific to each type, that move us from automatic to authentic living, use the Enneagram Map to loosen the grip of unhealthy patterns and false inner narratives, grow in compassion toward self and others, and find encouragement with friends, new and old. Our time together will include didactic, inquiry, small group discussion, poetry and practices. Participants will leave with journaling questions that loosen automatic responses and practices (such as whole body breathing) that can sustain our presence and bring us home to ourselves.

The Enneagram as a Guide and Support for My Ministry

At its heart, the Enneagram is a tool that teaches us what separates us from ourselves, each other, and God. That’s why it is such a powerful tool in ministry. We will explore best practices for using the Enneagram in a way that invites spiritual growth instead of limiting it. We will also explore the 9 patterns of separation and paths of healing that the Enneagram identifies.

Moving the Race Conversation Forward with the Enneagram - part 3

Co-teaching with Rev. Tyler Sit at Wisdom Ways in St. Paul, MN

In contrast to the belief that racism is a personal choice, we will explore racism as a collective, often subconscious, reality that affects literally every person who grew up in Western cultures. Like our Enneagram types, racism tells a story of who we are that is, in reality, incomplete. We will explore how each type can fall into the trap of perpetuating existing power structures, and how each type can leverage their strengths for positive change.

Introduction to the Enneagram, November 9 & 16

What is the Enneagram? Is it relevant to me? Can I use it for spiritual growth? Join us to answer these questions! Spoiler alert… Yes, the Enneagram offers deep wisdom and insight and can be a powerful tool for self-awareness and compassion and service. We will learn the basics of the Enneagram and the 9 Enneagram styles. Debbi will describe each Enneagram style and show how it is grounded in a beautiful aspect of the divine.

Next Steps with the Enneagram, November 23 & 30

Let’s get practical. Now that I know my Enneagram type (or I’m pretty sure I do), how can I use this tool in my spiritual journey? Debbi will share helpful questions, guided imagery prayers, and blessings for each type. During our time together we will do some of these practices together. You will leave with practices you can continue to use in your journey of growth.

Debbi is a certified Enneagram teacher and an IEA (International Enneagram Association) Accredited Professional. She is also a Spiritual Director, companioning others on their spiritual journey. She loves teaching the Enneagram and teaches at many churches and at Shakopee Women’s Prison, as an Enneagram Prison Project Guide. She is on the board of the Minnesota chapter of the International Enneagram Association (MN-IEA) and served as its President for four years. Debbi co-presents Moving the Race Conversation Forward with the Enneagram, with Tyler Sit.

Debbi will introduce us to the Enneagram: a tool that helps us understand the motivation behind our behavior. We will learn about the nine different Enneagram types and begin to determine our own type. We will also learn how this knowledge helps increase the compassion we have for ourselves and those we love.

As a system, the Enneagram conveys knowledge about nine distinct but interrelated personality styles. Each style sees and experiences the world through a different lens and moves through the world with different gifts, challenges, and opportunities for achieving growth and wholeness.

Deepening Practice Group

The Enneagram of Receptivity

The Enneagram has an uncanny way of describing us. Often when we learn our Enneagram type we wonder how this tool could know us so well. It’s very helpful to see our type patterns and habits. It’s unhelpful if we over-identify with those patterns and habits in a way that keeps us from the fullness of who we are. In this group we will do practices that invite openness, awareness, and wholeness. We’ll explore the relationship between presence, receptivity, and our Enneagram type. With compassion we’ll welcome home unintegrated parts of ourselves.

This group is for those who know the habits and patterns of their Enneagram type. It’s not an introduction to the Enneagram.

In this group we will:

  • Learn new deepening and grounding practices

  • Commit to a daily life-giving practice

  • Grow in compassion toward self and others

  • Find encouragement with friends, new and old

  • Engage with conversation partners each week

Our sessions will include brief teachings, breathing practices, receptivity practices, visual meditations and guided audio meditations. You’ll have on-going access to these resources.

Comments from previous groups…

"The group was small enough to truly hear from others and listen to various experiences related to type. The poems, group exercises and readings were so well put together for personal growth to flow. The weekly assigned partner conversations were just exceptional! I would highly recommend the Deepening Practice Group to anyone seeking a deeper awareness of self."

"I liked that we did deeper work around the Enneagram."

"I appreciated the simplicity of each lesson making it accessible to rest into the practices. I appreciated the make up of the group and the various types. I appreciated being encouraged to chat with people mid week and I appreciated the wonderful meditations and handouts."
